  Perigiali는 그리스 서남부의 Peloponnes 반도 북동쪽의

Korinth라는 도시에서 약 5km 떨어져 있는 조용한 휴양지로,

눈부시게 흰 바닷가와 황금빛 모래알이 아름다운 해변이다.

       이 곡은 슬픈 연인들의 만남과 헤어짐을 멋지게

                 노래한 '슬픈 바닷가의 연가'이다.

    그런데 어느새 이 곡이 서로 손잡고 슬픔에 젖어 몸을

    맡기며 따라 부르는 그리스인들의 민중 음악이 되었다.

      

On the secret seashore
white like a pigeon
we thirsted at noon;
but the water was brackish.

비둘기처럼 새하얀 으슥한 해변에서

한낮의 태양 아래 우리는 목이 말랐네.
하지만 바닷물은 짜디 짯네.

On the golden sand
we wrote her name;
but the sea-breeze blew
and the writing vanished.
황금빛 모래위에

그녀의 이름을 썼지만,
바닷 바람이 불어와

그만 지워져 버렸네.

With what spirit, what heart,
what desire and passion
we lived our life: a mistake!
So we changed our life... 

욕망과 충동, 갈망과 열정으로 가득 찬 우리는

삶의 길을 잘못 선택했고, 삶은 바뀌었네.
